Woman in a Field

Information is a human right.

Half the world has no usable internet.

Geography, economics, conflict, disaster, and politics all play a part in obstructing access to information and opportunities for education.

The Offline Internet Consortium was created in 2018 to bring together developers, academics, and advocates working to provide offline communities with offline-first alternatives that are local, affordable, and sustainable.

Nearly 100% of international policies that address “the digital divide” fail to mention the role of offline-accessible technologies in capacity-building and ensuring access to high quality information and lifelong learning.

Our mission as a consortium is to grow support for groups engaged in this work, serving communities in more than 90 countries around the world.
